Shawn Mendes Opens The Show With Performance Of ‘Lost In Japan’
Shawn Mendes kicked off the 2018 iHeartRadio MMVAs with his jittering, dancey track “Lost in Japan.” The Canadian artist was greeted by thousands of screaming fans, making him feel right at place in his hometown of Toronto.
Taking the stage on his own, Mendes opened the show with a performance of the feel-good love song “Lost in Japan” wearing a pleated, purple button up. With his guitar in hand and backed by his band, Mendes turned the show’s energy level up with thousands of fans in the audience joining in to sing along.
The Toronto-born Vine star-turned-recording artist has become an international superstar thanks to his guitar-driven pop ballads, drawing comparisons to pop music heavy hitters like Ed Sheeran, Justin Timberlake, and fellow Canadian Justin Bieber.
This is the third time that the pop music heartthrob has taken the iHeartRadio MMVAs stage. As well, the singer-songwriter is nominated in eight different categories this year, making him the most nominated artist at the 2018 iHeartRadio MMVAs. His nominations include Artist of the Year, Best Pop Artist or Group, Fan Fave Artist, and Video of the Year for the lead single off his self-titled third studio album, “In My Blood.”
The 2018 iHeartRadio MMVAs, hosted by Awkwafina, features performances from 98 Degrees, The Beaches, Bebe Rexha, Brett Kissel, bülow, Meghan Trainor, Shawn Mendes, Kris Wu (吴亦凡), 5 Seconds of Summer, Alessia Cara, Halsey, and Marshmello featuring Anne-Marie.
