Shawn Mendes Wins Fan Fave Artist And Fan Fave Video For ‘In My Blood’
Shawn Mendes pours his heart out in his latest album, and fans are responding in a big way. Just announced, Mendes is the winner of this year’s Fan Fave Artist award and the Fan Fave Video award for “In My Blood.”
Leading this year’s iHeartRadio MMVAs with eight nominations, Mendes’ latest win caps off a huge night for the singer, who opened the show with an incredible performance of “Lost in Japan” and is set to return to the stage to close the show.
Accepting the award from EDM duo Sofi Tukker and co-host Awkwafina, Mendes told the hometown crowd “I’ve said it a million times, but honestly, with all of my heart, since day one, you guys have been making me look cool. Voting so hard online to support me so hard. I love you guys to death, you know that. Thank you so much MMVAs.”
The lead single from Mendes’ self-titled third studio album, “In My Blood,” focuses on the singer’s recent struggle with anxiety. Matching the video to the lyrics, “In My Blood” was shot in one take and visualizes the journey of anxiety from darkness to light. Dressed simply in black pants and a green sweater, Mendes spends the video lying on the ground as the elements around him reflect his changing mood. Starting off in a mentally and emotionally dark space, rocks and bricks fly at Mendes in the CGI-heavy video. The crashing debris eventually gives way to rainstorms, but as the song moves towards its uplifting conclusion the rain gives way to a brighter day and flowers and grass begin to bloom around the young singer.
Mendes is adding to his growing collection of iHeartRadio MMVAs, which consisted of four awards before tonight’s show. Fan Fave Video marks Mendes’ third win of the night, having already taken home the awards for Best Pop Artist or Group and Fan Fave Artist. Mendes is also up for Artist of the Year.
The 2018 iHeartRadio MMVAs, hosted by Awkwafina, features performances from Shawn Mendes, Alessia Cara, Meghan Trainor, Kris Wu (吴亦凡), Marshmello featuring Anne-Marie, Brett Kissel, bülow, The Beaches, Bebe Rexha, 98 Degrees, 5 Seconds of Summer and Halsey.
