Skier Gus Kenworthy Is Bringing The Olympic Power To The Show
The iHeartRadio MMVAs are getting a big dose of Olympic power thanks to today’s announcement that American skier Gus Kenworthy will be presenting at this year’s show. No stranger to live events with big stakes, Gus is a two-time Olympic competitor, taking home the silver for the USA at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi in Men’s Slopestyle.
Not only is Gus an incredible athlete and skier, he’s also used his platform to help destigmatize sports. Gus made history in 2015 by appearing on ESPN and becoming the first action-sports star to come out publicly. At the 2018 Olympics, Gus again made history by kissing his boyfriend Matthew Wilkas on a live broadcast, becoming an inspiration for LGBTQ athletes around the world.
Kiss Kiss Bish! Didn’t realize this moment was being filmed yesterday but I’m so happy that it was. My childhood self would never have dreamed of seeing a gay kiss on TV at the Olympics but for the first time ever a kid watching at home CAN! Love is love is love. Also, shouts to @rightordoyle for being the third wheel of the century. Love you boo!
In addition to today’s news that Gus Kenworthy, today’s presenter announcement includes Alexandra Shipp, Chrissy Metz, Colton Haynes, Kristin Cavallari, and Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross.
Also announced today, eTalk host and former Much VJ Tyrone Edwards will be hosting the iHeartRadio MMVAs, with Chloe Wilde and Patrick Langlois returning to host the red carpet show.
Watch Awkwafina host the 2018 iHeartRadio MMVAs on Sunday, August 26 at 9/7MT on CTV and Much.
