Marshmello And Anne-Marie Deliver Dance-Centric Performance Of ‘2002’ And ‘FRIENDS’
Introduced by Awkwafina, Gus Kenworthy, and Madison Beer, American music producer Marshmello, and English recording artist Anne-Marie wowed the crowd with a medley performance of “2002” and “FRIENDS”
Beginning backstage with a stripped down, acoustic version of her single “2002,” Anne-Marie—dressed in a sheer bedazzled two-piece—and Marshmello transitioned into their summer hit “FRIENDS.” Surrounded by black and white colouring book-inspired furniture (including a giant cartoon-y TV monitor) and bright lights, the pair brought an EDM dance party to the iHeartRadio MMVAs.
Written by Anne-Marie, Ed Sheeran, Benny Blanco, Julia Michaels and Steve Mac, “2002” is a song from Anne-Marie’s debut solo album Speak Your Mind, which the singer never intended to release as a single. After much pestering from Sheeran via Instagram, Anne-Marie caved and in April of this year, “2002” became the sixth single from Speak Your Mind.
Recently certified Platinum, Marshmello and Anne-Marie’s “FRIENDS” collaboration peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard charts. Though the single never broke the Top 10 charts, “FRIENDS” is widely considered a 2018 song of the summer by many, including us.
This year, Marshmello is nominated for the Best EDM/Dance Artist or Group iHeartRadio MMVA. Along with Anne-Marie, the music producer is also nominated for Song of the Summer and Best Collaboration for their work on “FRIENDS.”
The 2018 iHeartRadio MMVAs, hosted by Awkwafina, features performances from Shawn Mendes, Alessia Cara, Meghan Trainor, Kris Wu (吴亦凡), Marshmello featuring Anne-Marie, Brett Kissel, bülow, The Beaches, Bebe Rexha, 98 Degrees, 5 Seconds of Summer and Halsey.
