Ed Sheeran Wins Single Of The Year For ‘Perfect’
It’s official: Ed Sheeran and his perfectly written and performed loved ballad “Perfect” is this year’s iHeartRadio MMVA Single of the Year.
Based on radio play on iHeartRadio stations over the past year, Sheeran’s win in this category is no big surprise. The song, taken from the English artist’s 2017 third studio album Divide, reached No. 1 in the singer’s native UK and in Canada and the US. Already a huge hit when it was released in September 2017, Sheeran breathed new life into the song twice, first by releasing a duet of “Perfect” with Beyoncé and later dropping a version with opera singer Andrea Bocelli.
The award was presented by MUCH Creators Dan Rodo and Bianca Harris, who hosted the iHeartRadio MMVA PreGame Show. Sheeran accepted the award from a stop on his North American tour, thanking his fans and reminiscing about his 2015 co-hosting gig.
Single of the Year marks Sheeran’s fourth iHeartRadio MMVAs win since taking home Most Buzzworthy International Group or Artist and Best International Artist in 2015, the same year he co-hosted the show.
Sheeran is up for four more awards this year, including Best Pop Artist or Group, Artist of the Year, Fan Fave Artist and Fan Fave Single.
The 2018 iHeartRadio MMVAs are hosted by Awkwafina and feature performances from Shawn Mendes, Alessia Cara, Meghan Trainor, Kris Wu (吴亦凡), Marshmello featuring Anne-Marie, Brett Kissel, bülow, The Beaches, Bebe Rexha, 98 Degrees, 5 Seconds of Summer and Halsey.
