Beauty And Festival Trends According To Anne-Marie

With the 2018 iHeartRadio MMVAs less than a month away, we can’t wait to see what the performers and presenters will wear to the annual award show.

Stars from all over the world will be dropping by Toronto’s biggest block party, bringing along with them their signature style and what’s sure to be some unforgettable looks. But prepping for a big night out requires some serious skincare prep and staying on top of the trends. Anne-Marie gets that.

The platinum blonde UK songstress recently sat down with Marie Claire to dish on all her favourite beauty trends, what to wear to music festivals, and some of her go to skincare products. Here’s everything we learned from her interview.

She regrets the thin eyebrow trend too.

Even pop artist Anne-Marie couldn’t escape the early 2000s trend of over-plucked eyebrows. “There was a point when eyebrows were considered cool if they were really thin,” said Anne-Marie. “I did that and looking back now, it didn’t look so good!” She’s definitely not alone.

She’s all about the ‘natural look.’

If Anne-Marie had to pick one hairstyle, one makeup look, and one nail colour to wear for the rest of her life, she’d go with something au-natural.

For hair, she’s a big fan of braids and would choose French plaits down the side of her head because “they’re really easy and look really pretty.” For makeup, the 27-year-old would choose a ‘natural look’—one where it doesn’t look like she has makeup on but in fact does. Her nail colour would also follow the same aesthetic, sticking to a nude colour, like beige “because it goes with everything.”

She swears by a thick moisturizer.

Anne-Marie is all about keeping her skin hydrated. With dry lips and overall sensitive skin, a makeup artist once recommended Weleda Skin Food to her and the singer-songwriter has been using it ever since.

“It’s just the best moisturiser I’ve ever had in my life,” said Anne-Marie. “It’s really thick and I use it over my body.” She went on to say that if her house was burning and she could only grab one product, it would be this one.

Her go to festival look is glitter.

Anne-Marie is on board for shining bright when it comes to summer festival looks. Although the glitter trend may seem overdone, the UK singer suggests a more subtle approach using VO5 Shimmer Spray on roots to make hair festival ready.

“I love glitter so much! I actually think I’d probably do sleek hair with like waves at the bottom. I’ve had it before and I feel like you could make it festival-y if you added some of the VO5 shimmers to the roots.”

I don’t know how many nights it’s been but this is tonight.

Her biggest beauty secret is taking her makeup off before going to bed.

What’s Anne-Marie’s biggest piece of beauty advice? Take your makeup off every night before you go to sleep. The songstress says doing this has really helped her skin and that she only uses a warm flannel and water to take her makeup off, rather than harsh soap products.

“So many people don’t do it! I used to sleep in makeup as a teenager, but I see it like this: when you’re wearing make-up, your skin has essentially got a coat on. You wouldn’t sleep in a coat would you?”

She doesn’t wear her makeup all day.

Although Anne-Marie is a busy pop star and her days are currently filled with press events and performances as the opening act on Ed Sheeran’s Divide tour, she doesn’t wear makeup all day.

“What I do is try not to wear makeup for as long as possible. I wake up, put some moisturising cream on and try to keep it like that all day until I have to put makeup on,” said Anne-Marie. “As soon as I’m done with what I’m doing in the day, I take my makeup off straight away. I try to keep my skin breathing as much as possible… I never used to leave the house without makeup on, so this is a big thing for me!”

Sometimes no make up selfie. Is this even a selfie though I’m confused.

Beauty is confidence.

For Anne-Marie, she defines beauty as being confident. She’s all about the beauty that comes from within when we are kind to each other and happiest in our own skin. “Confidence is beautiful and you can feel it and see it. You don’t have to be wearing particular clothes to look good, you can just see it,” said Anne-Marie. “Maybe some people see beautiful as an outside thing, but for me beauty is someone being kind and generous. It’s definitely something you can feel.”
