Alessia Cara Proves She’s All Grown Up With Incredible Performance Of ‘Growing Pains’
It wouldn’t be the iHeartRadio MMVAs without some magic from hometown performer Alessia Cara.
The Brampton native has been an integral part of the award show for years, first performing in 2016 and then co-hosting in 2017 with Joe Jonas. Tonight, Cara once again proved why she’s one of the most exciting voices in music today with her moving performance of her latest single, “Growing Pains.”
Cara brought the artwork for “Growing Pains” to life, hitting the iHeartRadio MMVAs stage in an oversized suit jacket and tie. Sharing the stage with her band and back-up dancers, Cara delivered an emotional rendition of her latest single, which details the struggles of entering adulthood while maintaining a sense of self. Leaving the mic stand behind, Alessia made her way around the bright yellow stage to get closer to her thousands of screaming fans.
Cara’s performance was introduced by iHeartRadio MMVAs co-host Tyrone Edwards and trio NEW CITY, who scored a nomination for Best New Canadian Artist, a category that Cara won back in 2016.
“Growing Pains” is the first single from Cara’s upcoming album The Pains of Growing, which is the highly anticipated follow-up to her 2015 debut album Know-It-All.
Cara is up for five awards tonight, including Best Pop Artist or Group, Fan Fave Artist, Fan Fave Video for “Growing Pains,” and Video of the Year for “1-800-273-8255” with Logic and Khalid.
The 2018 iHeartRadio MMVAs, hosted by Awkwafina, features performances from Shawn Mendes, Alessia Cara, Meghan Trainor, Kris Wu (吴亦凡), Marshmello featuring Anne-Marie, Brett Kissel, bülow, The Beaches, Bebe Rexha, 98 Degrees, 5 Seconds of Summer and Halsey.
