5 Seconds Of Summer To Heat Up The iHeartRadio MMVAs Stage

It looks like there’ll be more than five seconds of summer this year. For the first time ever, the boy band from down under, 5 Seconds Of Summer will be hitting the stage at the iHeartRadio MMVAs.

After some time away from the studio and leaving behind their early pop-punk sound, the Aussie natives will bring their new, rock-focused vibe to the annual awards show in an unforgettable performance.

Bandmates Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, Ashton Irwin, and Michael Clifford released their third studio album Youngblood earlier this month and will kick off their Meet You There Tour in support of the new record later this August. The band released the new record’s lead single “Want You Back” this past February, marking the group’s first single in nearly two years.

Following the group’s sophomore album, 5SOS stepped away from the spotlight to re-evaluate their sound instead of quickly releasing another album full of copycat singles guaranteed to please their ravenous fan base. Having forgone the “She Looks So Perfect” pop-punk sound that drew comparisons to Blink-182 and Sum 41, the band has re-emerged with a slick, dance sound with light influences of rock that’s filling the void left by One Direction’s hiatus.

In addition to 5 Seconds Of Summer, today’s performer announcement also includes Meghan Trainor and Kris Wu, joining previously announced performers Alessia Cara, Halsey, and Marshmello featuring Anne-Marie. Today’s announcement also included presenters Derek Hough, Jenni “JWOWW” Farley, Sonequa Martin-Green, Tyra Banks and Prince Michael Jackson.

The 2018 iHeartRadio MMVAs go down Sunday, August 26 at 9ET/7MT on CTV and Much.
