5 Seconds Of Summer Cover Post Malone’s ‘Stay,’ Release Stripped-Back Version Of ‘Lie To Me’

Post Malone fans aren’t the only ones into his sophomore album Beerbongs & Bentleys. It seems the members of 5 Seconds Of Summer are fans themselves of the LP, especially the record’s weepy, folk-pop ballad “Stay.”

The Australian foursome recently covered the track during their Spotify Singles session, comparing it to The Beatles and shouting it out on Twitter for being “beautifully written.”

Mainly sung by both Luke Hemmings and Michael Clifford, 5SOS’s cover of “Stay” retains the ache felt with the original version, but includes a few additional guitar flourishes that transcend the song from Malone’s rough vibe to the band’s mature, glossy alt-pop sound of their third studio album Youngblood.

In addition to the cover, the group also released a stripped-back version of their Youngblood single “Lie To Me.” This toned down, guitar-and-vox live recording of the track highlights the song’s vocal melodies as well as the quartet’s strong sense of harmony. Most recently, the band dropped by the Much Studios, where they went head to head with our super personal questions in the Much Confessional. In a jam-packed segment, 5SOS goof off in front of the camera, remixing their own songs in the style of Hoobastank, and admit to a serious Dragon Ball Z obsessions.
