What do you remember the most about your first MMVAs?
The thing I remember most is having to stall and stretch for time by improvising with Danny Fernandes on stage. It’s something we prepare for incessantly during rehearsals and of course, I had to do it my first year. But it all went over smoothly and no one could tell we were going off script. It was kind of the best moment of the night!
How do you prepare for co-hosting duties?
We have 2-3 script meetings and have to have everything memorized after the first read. Then we rehearse our throws over and over again until we’re reciting them in our sleep. On top of the show preparations, I also have to go through a few dress fittings. Other than that I just make sure I’m getting enough rest and eating healthy the week of the show.
How early do you begin memorizing your script?
As I write this it’s Monday before the MMVAs, so I will get my script today and have it memorized by Wednesday.
What does your MMVA weekend look like?
During MMVA weekend I will be booked to do a lot of press for TV and radio through the whole weekend. Then on Friday and Saturday I’m at Much headquarters going through rehearsals from 10 am to midnight. In between my parts in the show, myself and the other hosts get to watch the performers rehearsing, which is magical.
How do you deal with nerves on the big night?
I usually just take big deep breathes, but I’ll be honest. I don’t really get nervous for the MMVAs. I get very unique type of excited about the whole night. It’s a distinct feeling that I only feel when I am about to host the MMVAs.
Who are you most excited to see this year?
I’m really looking forward to seeing Lorde at this years MMVAs, as well as Ariana Grande. Both girls have amazing voices!
What is your most memorable or favourite moment from the MMVAs?
My most memorable moment was from 2011 when I hosted for the first time. I was going out to present an award with Classified and Lady Gaga was accepting it. We were all waiting backstage and she walked over in her towering heels and said hello to me and we chatted for a little bit before we had to go out on stage. She had remembered me from out interview a couple of months before and she was just so kind and genuinely excited to be there.

Singer-songwriter Regina Spektor has been releasing inventive and beautiful records for years, though she’s flown somewhat under the radar of mainstream music fans. Starting in 2003, Spektor began gaining traction while opening for bands like The Strokes, Kings of Leon and Keane, but it was her 2006 record Begin to Hope that really kicked Spektor’s […]

Country music tends to ebb and flow with Top 40 radio, where one year the Dixie Chicks are making people revaluate this dislike for twang, it may be another few years until an artist like Taylor Swift comes along and does the same bridging of the gap. While a country takeover is always simmering, this […]
Instead of catching ghosts (or Pokémon) this week, Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones had the unfortunate task of busting the most unseemly creatures 2016 has to offer: Twitter trolls. Yesterday, Jones visited Late Night with Seth Meyers to discuss the Twitter trolls she encountered in response to the Ghostbusters movie. With her recent return back to Twitter […]
