Check Out These Remixes of Lorde’s ‘Green Light’
Lorde’s highly anticipated sophomore album Melodrama drops in two weeks on June 16, only a couple days before the singer returns to perform on the iHeartRadio MMVA stage.
Since her return to the music scene, Lorde has been previewing a handful of her new songs both online and at live performances, most recently dropping the third single “Perfect Places” a day early. But one track that has become one of the biggest singles of the year and a major summer anthem is none other than her first single “Green Light.”
The track is a pop tune that just makes listeners want to dance, and some artists feel the same by taking the song and giving it their own personalized remix. Check out these remixes of Lorde’s “Green Light” below.
First up is the Chromeo remix of “Green Light.” With this remix, Canadian synth-funk duo Chromeo manage to add even more energy to the track with an effortlessly smooth sound. The duo paint the song with some bass-driven funk vibes, as well as a bit of their trademark vocoder—still staying stay true to Lorde’s original pop tone.
Remixing a Lorde track can be a daunting task, but it’s a massive honour as well—especially if the singer asks you to do it. As Chromeo revealed on Facebook, Lorde was the one who reached out to them because she was a fan of their 2014 single “‘Old 45’s,” making this the first official remix that Lorde has ever commissioned. This is the first remix Chromeo has done since 2012, and it’s definitely worth the wait.
The second remix comes from Lorde’s New Zealand compatriot producers Montell2099 and SACHI, who have taken “Green Light” and basically flipped it on its head. These guys have gone way off Lorde’s original script, crafting a much darker, pop banger with strong electronic roots.
This last “Green Light” remix is from Brooklyn-based producer and songwriter LEFTI. His remix more closely resembles the original by enhancing Lorde’s ‘80s pop-catharsis vibe, while also adding LEFTI’s classic dance layers to it. LEFTI, real name Alex Suarez, uses his music to tread the lines between house, funk and indie genres and that’s no exception with this remix.
Don’t miss Lorde performing at the 2017 iHeartRadio MMVAs, hosted by Alessia Cara and Joe Jonas on Sunday, June 18 at 9E/6P.
