Watch Lana Del Rey And The Weeknd Fall In Love In ‘Lust For Life’ Video
Lana Del Rey and The Weeknd have finally dropped the video for their latest duet, the title track from Del Rey’s upcoming fifth album Lust for Life, giving fans a dreamy love story set in Del Rey’s Hollyweird.
“Lust For Life” is a slow moving track that plays with Motown sounds and lyrics from girl groups of the 1960s, paying particular homage to the Angels 1963 single “My Boyfriend’s Back.” As for The Weeknd, the “Starboy” singer shares the vocal duties on the track, with the two trading off on lines throughout the melodic and entrancing single.
The official video is only a slight alteration of the duo’s lyric video, which was released in April. The grainy black and white video receives its only pop of colour from Del Rey’s red dress, with the singer starting off the video on a soundstage with two backup performers. Del Rey eventually leaves her post at the mic to find her The Weeknd, who is reportedly cooler than ever, waiting for her on stop of the H of the Hollywood sign.
The longtime friends and collaborators hold one another tight and keep things PG, even with the lyrics urging listeners to take off all their clothes. Del Rey eventually slides down the final ‘D’ in the sign and the two find one another in a clearing full of flowers.
“Lust For Life” marks the first time another singer has been featured on one of her albums, with Del Rey bestowing the honour on her favourite collaborator (as for Lana, she appeared on The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind The Madness and last year’s Starboy).
This week’s video follows Del Rey’s new track “Coachella – Woodstock In My Mind,” which the singer released on May 15. It’s unclear whether the new song will be part of Lust For Life or a special release for fans.
Del Rey has still not announced an official release date for Lust For Life, but with two official singles and an album trailer, an album drop can’t be far behind.
As for five-time iHeartRadio MMVA winner The Weeknd, the Toronto native is nominated for three awards this year, including Most Buzzworthy Canadian, Fan Fave Artist or Group and iHeartRadio Canadian Single of the Year for “Starboy” feat.
