Imagine Dragons Drop Epic Video For ‘Thunder’

Since releasing their breakout single “It’s Time” in 2012, Imagine Dragons have consistently dropped one powerhouse single after another. With their new track “Thunder,” the four piece rock band is setting their bar even higher.

Just released last week, “Thunder” is one of the most exciting new singles of 2017. Lead singer Dan Reynolds’ self-proclaimed status as an underdog is kept intact on the new single, but, as always, Imagine Dragons give their fan base an inspirational ending, the musical equivalent of ‘it gets better.’ It’s subject matter that the Las Vegas natives have perfected, and one that they expand upon in the stunning new track.

Playing with vocal effects and including backup singers and electronic orchestral rises and falls, “Thunder” is something we’ve not only never heard from Imagine Dragons, but from any artist. The exciting new track playfully darts in and out of genres, a pop song one moment, an EDM song in another, seamlessly weaving all the parts together to create a track that keeps the listener hooked and guessing until the end.

Now the 2017 iHeartRadio MMVA performers have dropped a slick sci-fi music video for “Thunder.” As we guessed by their Instagram posts, the video was shot in Dubai by frequent Taylor Swift collaborator Joseph Kahn. Easily confused as a trailer for a big budget blockbuster that has humans co-habiting with with aliens, the song’s use of contortionist dancers and incredible make-up with the futuristic Dubai is visually stunning. The members of Imagine Dragons, dressed in all black, duplicate repeatedly throughout the video until an army of the band fill the city. As the humans continue to clone themselves, the alien species begin to realize something is amiss and have an awakening of their own.

Both Imagine Dragons and Kahn are always up for trying something totally new in their videos, making this a perfect pairing for “Thunder.” Kahn has seemingly worked with all the biggest artists, including Swift, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, U2, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Maroon 5, and Eminem, but this new partnership with Imagine Dragons may be his most ambitious yet.
