Imagine Dragons Break All The Rules With Exciting Single ‘Thunder’

For most artists, selling 9 million albums worldwide means that you’ve found a formula that works for your audience. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? Thankfully, that’s not the attitude from pop rock group Imagine Dragons. With their new single “Thunder,” the second track from the band’s upcoming highly anticipated third studio, Imagine Dragons are taking their penchant for soaring anthems and breaking all the rules.

Just dropped today, “Thunder” is one of the most exciting new singles of 2017. Lead singer Dan Reynolds and his self-proclaimed status as an underdog is kept intact on the new single, but as always, Imagine Dragons give their fan base an inspirational ending, the musical equivalent of ‘it gets better.’ It’s subject matter that the Las Vegas natives have perfected, and one that they expand upon in the stunning new single.

Playing with vocal effects and including backup singers and electronic orchestral rises and falls, “Thunder” is something we’ve not only never heard from Imagine Dragons, but from any artist. The exciting new track playfully darts in and out of genres, a pop song one moment, an EDM song in another, seamlessly weaving all the parts together to create a track that keeps the listener hooked and guessing until the end.

Imagine Dragons already forged their own path, breaking out with their trademark brand of stadium filling tracks like “Demons” and “Radioactive,” and with “Thunder,” the band is showing yet again that they’re at their best when taking risks and having fun.

The four-piece recently traveled to Dubai, possibly to shoot a music video for their new single “Thunder.”

Posting images on their Instagram page, it appears that Imagine Dragons may be teaming up with music video director Joseph Kahn for “Thunder.” Best known for his cinematic music videos with Taylor Swift, including “Out Of the Woods,” “Style,” and “Wildest Dreams,” Kahn would be the best director to create a music video grand enough for a song like “Thunder” that fills every inch of space it touches.
