Stranger No More-Halsey To Make Her iHeartRadio MMVAs Debut
Halsey won’t be a stranger to the iHeartRadio MMVAs for much longer. Just announced today, electro-pop singer Halsey will be performing for the first time on stage at the biggest party of the year.
The New Jersey singer-songwriter has been changing the sound of pop radio since her early days, when she quickly gained attention for her self-released music on social media. Halsey’s debut studio album Badlands came in 2015 and achieved commercial success, but it was her “Closer” collaboration with EDM-pop duo The Chainsmokers that really put the artist on the map and earned her a Grammy nomination.
Halsey—real name Ashley Nicolette Frangipane—dropped her sophomore LP Hopeless Fountain Kingdom last year and it became her first album to top the Billboard 200 Chart. Inspired by Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet, her second record included hit tracks like “Now Or Never,” “Alone,” “Bad At Love,” and “Strangers.”
As a biracial, bisexual singer-songwriter, the 23-year-old has also made a name for herself outside of the music industry as an activist for women, LGBTQ rights, and mental health. Halsey has been on the road since last fall and is currently on the final leg of her of her North American tour for Hopeless Fountain Kingdom.
In addition to Halsey, today’s performer announcement also includes Alessia Cara and Marshmello featuring Anne Marie. The 2018 iHeartRadio MMVAs go down Sunday, August 26 at 9E/6P.
