Get the backstage scoop on the MMVA Red Carpet

Red Carpet

Backstage Correspondents Alyssa Talbot and Dan Rodo are busy getting the behind the scenes scoop on the MMVAs to bring to you! Today, Alyssa and Dan are taking viewers on an all-access backstage tour of the MMVA Red Carpet.

Dan and I got the chance to talk to one of the producers of the red carpet, Chris Perez. This is his second year working on the red carpet at the MMVAs and his role is most definitely not a small one. Chris’ job is to plan and organize the arrivals of some of the biggest celebs in the world for the red carpet. Talk about stressful!

The MMVAs are known for crazy entrances by artists and performers. According to Chris, almost no one is showing up in just a simple, black SUV, the standard for most award shows. Months before the MMVAs, Chris and his co-producers come up with creative ideas and then contact the artists to see if they are on board with it. Bands like Marianas Trench normally pitch their own arrival ideas to Much, and Chris told us MT plan on outdoing themselves this year!

Chris’ role also includes planning the timing of the arrivals and making sure they run smoothly. The stars arrive from Richmond Street through lanes which Chris called “limo lanes”, which are lanes exclusively for the arrivals, but are normally waiting ahead of time somewhere where fans would not see them. After turning onto the red carpet, MMVA host T-ReXx welcomes the guests and then they have a chance to meet some fans before moving onto publicity.

Chris told us all about the “Twitter Mirror” which is new this year. It gives the artists the chance to come take a picture, sign their autograph and it gets uploaded to Twitter almost instantly. After all the publicity, fans and twitter mirror, the artists make their way to the end of the red carpet and make their way backstage.

Make sure you see all the extravagant arrivals by watching the red carpet tonight!
