Alessia Cara Will Be ‘Here’
For the first time ever, pop singer Alessia Cara is going to be right ‘here’ for the MMVAs! The 19-year-old singer-songwriter will make her MMVA debut Sunday June 19, when she performs at the biggest block party of the year.
Cara’s upcoming MMVA performance will be a homecoming for the Brampton, Ontario native, who has spent 2016 traveling across North America on her hugely successful Know-It-All Tour. In addition to her tour, Alessia recently performed at the 2016 JUNO Awards and took home the award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year.
Getting her start on YouTube with covers of past MMVA performers like Drake and Ed Sheehan, Cara released her five-track EP Four Pink Walls in August 2015 and followed it up in November with her first full-length album, Know-It-All. The debut album features Cara’s most recent single “Wild Things”, as well as her breakout hit, “Here.”
Drawing comparisons to everyone from Amy Winehouse to Lorde to Norah Jones, Cara quickly became an overnight success in 2015, landing appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Streamy Awards, and Taylor Swift’s 1989 Tour when it made a stop in Tampa, Florida.
In addition to Alessia Cara, Nick Jonas and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have also been announced as performers for the 2016 MMVAs.
