5 Things You Didn’t Know About Nick Jonas

Nick Jonas performs at the 2015 Much Music Video Awards at MuchMusic on Queen Street West in Toronto.

Nick Jonas is back for the second year in a row to perform at the iHeartRadio MMVAs. Though he has had huge success as a solo artist with his hits “Jealous” and “Close” and as a main character on Kingdom, there may be much more you don’t know about this heartthrob. Here are five interesting facts about Nick Jonas that are sure to blow your mind.

1. His first radio hit was a gospel song

Nick Jonas was blowing up on Christian radio as a young kid. After being discovered at a barbershop, young Jonas performed his first Broadway play at only seven years old. His song “Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer),” became popular on Record & Radio’s Christian Adult Contemporary Chart. Columbia Records signed young Jonas as a solo, gospel artist and even recorded a self-titled album. Luckily, that album had a very limited release and the Jonas Brothers were born shortly after.

2. He can live off of pizza for the rest of his life

Jonas expressed in his Reddit AMA that if he could only eat one thing for the rest of his life, it would be pizza. Back in his Camp Rock days, Jonas sang that he only liked cheese on his pizza. Nowadays, his pizza variety has changed quite a bit. Pepperoni, sausage and truffle are a few of his favourite toppings.

“I don’t eat a whole lot of pizza because I try to stay pretty clean with my food,” he said on Reddit, “But occasionally I’ll get into a pizza pie and just go to town.”

3. He thinks his South Park episode is pretty funny

The Jonas Brothers made their South Park parody debut in 2009 in and episode titled, “The Ring.” It focused on how Disney is marketed sex to young girls through purity rings. When it initially aired, Jonas said he didn’t like the episode because it related a lot to his life at the time. Looking back on it, it’s not as bad as he thought.

“Years later and once the purity rings were no longer around, it was very funny to me and I’ve actually watched the episode a few times,” he said.

4. He knows sign language

Jonas’s mother is a former sign language teacher and he told MTV: “My mom taught me sign language, so thanks to her I can understand and speak the language pretty well.”

5. Jay Z helped him name his album

Earlier this year, Jonas told Los Angeles station AMP Radio that Jay Z is the one who helped him pick the album name Last Year Was Complicated. Unhinged was the initial title, which is also the name of a song on the album, but Jonas changed his mind after sitting down with the rapper.

Accoring to Jonas, Jay Z said, “‘Let’s just talk about this year of your life. What’s it been like?’ And I said, ‘Last year was complicated,’ and he was like, ‘That’s the title!'”
